Lee Elementary School

Students were able to recognize the need to separate organic waste from inorganic waste. The initial success was a dramatic increase in the consumption of fresh fruit as awareness of nutrition was a focus. A school garden plot was laid out and the beginning of a compost bin was constructed. The school reduced the number of dumpsters required by examining their waste streams. A rotary compost drum was donated.
Update, Oct.26,2010: One of the two chain-link fence compost bins was completed and as soon as the donated fabric arrives, the second bin will be completed. So far, no shredded paper has made its way to the rotary drum.
